Recent studies have shown that non-English speakers working in the United States who have resorted to strengthening their English with education have increased their quality of life. Good communication, is therefore, critical.

Aston American University has developed English courses to help people meet personal and job related standards from all over the world. By taking your next step to improve your English with Aston American University, you will gain sufficient knowledge to apply yourself in a variety of English settings such as: grammar, vocabulary, listening and reading comprehension, speaking, pronunciation, and writing. We understand what it takes to foster a personal and attentive learning environment that is flexible and accommodating. That is why prior to starting the English course with Aston American University, we assess your English abilities and place you in your most ideal learning level. Being in the appropriate level allows you to work on areas of improvement, gain the confidence you seek, and find success with your English proficiency.

Each week for 8 weeks, students will be tutored one-on-one online for 30 minutes as your certified instructor gives you their full and undivided attention. This means you can focus on practicing your pronunciation and comprehension without having to worry about any other student. In addition to your weekly 30-minute online sessions with your live tutor, developed course materials are available to supplement your learning goals. You can learn English at your own pace and privacy without even having to leave your home.

Learning Outcomes

Students who complete the ESL200 Certificate will be able to:
a) Understand basic listening in English regarding jobs and routines.
b) Compare cities, people, and objects to express an opinion.
c) Talk about plans and events in the future.
d) Give advice when given situations.
e) Hold a conversation about a variety of topics including personal and environmental matters.
f) Order food and talk about meals and ingredients.
g) Talk about illnesses and medicine, and hold a role play at the doctor’s office.

English as a Second Language - Level 200: Elementary

To ensure students develop a well-rounded skill set, the Elementary course builds upon the basic foundations of the English language established in Level 100 in addition to the activities and skills to be focused equally on:

• Grammar
• Vocabulary
• Listening comprehension
• Speaking
• Pronunciation
• Reading comprehension
• Writing

This level also offers a live certified ESL instructor who will coach and provide personalized feedback and individual grading to improve comprehension of the course objectives. Note: All students must be assessed and placed in the Elementary level prior to the course start date. 

Academic Calendar

The 8-week online course will begin on the first week of each month (for new students). Students are required to study online three to four (3-4) hours per week and attend a weekly one-on-one live online session with their instructor. Assignments need to be completed prior to meeting with the instructor.
