Why did you become a teacher?
Dr. Erin Hill: I wanted to become a teacher to be able to make a positive difference in higher education. For me, it is fulfilling challenge: stimulating the next generation to become lifelong learners. I have always been grateful to the educational system for implanting values in me, and at this juncture, I feel I should contribute what I have learned and experienced over the years. This way I will be paying back, and at the same time, can fulfill my desire of enhancing the education system.
How does your legal experience shape the way you manage people and teach university students?
My legal experience shapes the way I manage people because I understand the legal rules and policies that govern business aspects. I am able to create policies and procedures based upon my legal expertise.
As the new academic chair of the business department, what are your responsibilities?
My responsibilities as the academic chair of the business department are to assist students and faculty with policies/procedures and strategic goals for the future.
How do you plan to improve the goals of the business department?
I plan to create a strategic plan in order to chart out milestones to improve the student experience.
What can students expect in the coming months?
Students can expect interactive teaching and communication with top-level faculty.
In addition to your new role as the department chair, which courses will you be teaching?
Finance, accounting, and legal classes.
What do you enjoy specifically about the courses you teach?
I enjoy teaching business law because I can incorporate my education and experience in a comprehensive manner.
What benefit do people have by incorporating business principles into their personal lives?
Incorporating business principles into one's daily life assists with managing and planning for the future.
How would business principles benefit, for instance, someone who is not in the field of business?
Everything has a business component to it.
How do you inspire students?
I inspire students by caring about their well-being and sharing my experiences of becoming an attorney and executive.
